I'm really loving the new collection from Sydney label, Secret Squirrel Clothing. All my Copenhagen planning has me yearning for a pretty coat, and that navy one takes the bait. There's something about the asymmetry with having the buttons on the side... I also love that black and grey striped sweater!

It has been quite a while since my last post. Life has gotten busy as usual, and my grand idea to start a new blog and post awesome stuff got thrown by the wayside. In any case, NQN just posted a comment on a recent entry, and one could not help but feel slightly motivated to at least post up a food entry! And what better way than to post about Taste, being all inspired by NQN's post.

So, here we go!

Mum won tickets to Taste of Sydney this year, two shiny Complimentary Tickets.

So Dad and I headed to Centennial Park on Thursday evening to check it out. With a $30 admission, it's not something that I think that I would have had the benefit of going to otherwise.

Had to go to the bank, to pick up our Crowns.

(mind the high contrast... oops!)

We walked around first, getting a feel for things, and just lapping up the intense foodie-ness of the place. The Grumpy Baker was definitely one to enjoy, and we came away with a roasted garlic and olive sourdough loaf.

Not to mention fangirling a little over Matt Moran, from Aria, Justine, of MasterChef fame, Pete Evans, from Hugo's and My Kitchen Rules and also the guy who plays Alf on Home & Away. I didn't take pictures though, except of Matt Moran, because I didn't want to seem tooo stalker-y!

Now to the food! Dad and I only tried three things, but they were the best three things ever!

Yellow fin tuna, with sweet pork crackling and ruby grapefruit, 10 crowns

from Flying Fish.

Organic grass fed Wagyu beef burger, 12 crowns

from Plan B.

Chocolate Soufflé, 12 crowns

from Bécasse.

Also tried some of the complimentary samples from the City Tattersalls Club: tempura soft shell crab, nifty dough nuts, and a mini panna cotta.

All in all, it was a great experience, and I really hope I get the chance to go again another year.

I have been crazy busy, finishing my exam on Thursday. Time is flying really quickly!

So now, that I have a little bit of a chance to breathe, I'm glad I stumbled across this sweet little bit of love.

Melody Gardot may just make my week. (Check out the official video here, if you're interested!)

And hey, would you look at that. She's coming to Sydney, supporting Diana Krall with Madeleine Peyroux. That would be total jackpot for my dad.

spring awakening.

With our Wicked tickets booked, my attention has turned to another award winning Broadway musical which is due to start soon in Sydney:

Spring Awakening: A New Musical

(Yes! That 'Book Now' link is clickable!
It will direct you to the Sydney Teatre Company box office site.)
This is the winner of EIGHT Tony Awards, a musical for which Lea Michele was famous for before Glee, based on the controversial 1981 play by Frank Wedekind.

While it touches on some distinct themes, I think that's part of its appeal, not to mention infused with great songs written by Duncan Sheik. I've had a bit of a listen to the Original Broadway Cast, and it's pretty awesome!

This LOLcat came up today, and I was amused, seeing as I'm reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire, in preparation for seeing the musical next month.

It's turning out to be pretty good, though not really quite what I was expecting. In any case, I'm looking forward to the musical. It will be a good chance to catch up with some old friends and just a nice night out.

I am sad, though, to some extent that it's the Australian cast. What I would give to see it on Broadway... Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, ok, even if they're not there anymore.

I used to love yellow when I was a little kid. I had this yellow OshKosh dress with daisies on it, and it was one of my favourite things to wear.

dragonfly.

After receiving a pair of dragonfly studs from tealily a couple of years ago, I started to become fascinated by these little creatures, particularly in jewellery. I then invested in a few necklaces and a couple more drop earrings.

Then one day I dropped one stud on my carpet and while scrounging around on the ground to look for it, I felt a sharp pain in my foot. I'd stepped on it, and the post on the back snapped off. Now, it's on my to-do things to see if there is any way at all that I can repair this, but for now, I am a pair of dragonfly studs short, and it saddens me.

So, while floundering in the midst of procrastination the other day, I decided to do a simple dragonfly search in etsy. Note, I have tried this before, but never seemed to find anything that suited my fancy.

BUT that day? SUCCESS! And while I'm holding these tightly in my pocket... I did find some other dragonfly things that are equally fantabulous!

Pomplamoose Music @ myspace

I like looking for good covers of songs. I especially like it when people have their own interpretations of the song. In addition, this is French, and since watching Fauteuils d'orchestre (Orchestra Seats) the other day, I've been wanting a little bit more foreign film and song in my life.

It also brings up my love of travel. I'm hoping and waiting that my exchange application goes through successfully, and then it will all be up to me passing Equity and Trusts in the Autumn semester. Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, something to look forward to (soon!), I hope.

I love trawling through lookbook.nu, sneaking peaks at the pictures that people take of their outfits. For me, it's not so much about the outfits alone, but the entire photo, two things I've never fully grapsed the hang of: clothes and a camera. While I do enjoy taking the odd photo, I'm not particularly artistic, and so fashion continues to elude me.

Anyway, from time to time I shall share a picture or two that I like. Still getting into what my blog is about, but hey, posting random things can't be all that bad. And you don't want to here about personal drama all the time, right?

secondhand goodness: a day with dad.

I'll be the first to admit, that when my dad started to get into records, and going to opshops to find them for cheaps, I felt ridiculous going in with him and being asked to look at clothes. Books were ok, and I've been buying books second hand for a long time now. But clothes? That was just unchartered territory, and the thought of wearing something that someone else had worn and sweated in was just... unhygienic.

After a while though, round about the time that 'vintage' started to become cool, I realised that, Hey this opshop thing might not be so bad. I mean, there is a thing called a washing machine. Since then, I've enjoyed the fortnightly (sometimes weekly!) trip to the Anglican Retirement Village, Vinnies or Salvos to shuffle through their current stock.

I don't have the best eye for things, mostly because I guess I'm not really that into fashion, although I can appreciate other people's ensembles. I'm the girl that flips through the rack really quickly, dismissing most things as old people's clothing and strange. I'm not particularly adventurous in what I wear, but when I see some things that I think fit in with my 'style' or whatever, I do pick it out and give it a try. Sometimes it's a good chance to pick up things you may not necessarily usually buy if they were full price. That's about the extent of my experimenting though.

ANYWAY, long introduction for what was meant to be a brief post. On Wednesday, after sending my cousin, A, off at the airport, Dad and I did a little bit of exploring, visiting Salvos stores in Tempe, Dulwich Hill and Ashfield. Tempe and Ashfield are HUGE, like big warehouses, while Dad really enjoyed the Dulwich Hill one, because it's more of a hole in the wall.

I watched The Lovely Bones yesterday with my cousin, A, who has been visiting us from Singapore, from Melbourne, since before Christmas.

I won't give too much away, but it's a brilliant movie, slightly different in tone and character to the book, but really enjoyable all the same.

Saoirse Ronan is definitely going to be an actor to look out for.

a new year, a new blog

This new year has brought new inspiration for a new blog. I'm not quite sure what this is going to be yet, but having subscribed to a number of blogs for a little over a year, I am ready to start this year with yet another blog project of sorts.

An introduction of sorts... I've been blogging since I was 10... 11... but mostly about random every day happenings. Nothing particularly relevant to the world outside my circle of friends. I guess as I've grown up, now almost 20 (in a month!), I'm coming to be more aware of the real wealth of information and shared knowledge that the internet contains. I don't just merely have to write about my life anymore, I can also comment on things that are happening around the world, or simply repost something that I find interesting. While reblogging can sometimes get a bit tedious, I guess it spreads things around a bit, to different audience groups...

An aim...? I'm not quite sure what I mean to get out of (yet another) blog. I'm not the best writer, even though I used to think I was, and I don't believe that I am extremely witty. But to be able to do something that I enjoy, just to take that little bit of time out from a busy uni schedule, well it can't be all that bad can it?

And a little bit about me; I'm 19, turning 20 in February, currently a full time student, studying Business and Law, living at home with her parents in Sydney. I come from a Singaporean Chinese background, and am lucky enough to have been able to travel frequently, usually at least once a year. I watch a ridiculous amount of TV, in between studying, and working part-time as a paralegal. I am not in the least bit creative, though I try, and wish that I had more time to read. Most importantly, I believe that I have been saved by His amazing grace, and while I am certainly not the most perfect model, it is something that I am working on.

That's just a little bit about me, but I do hope that you'll come on this journey with me.
